PALMER GEAR QUESTIONS
I have a recording studio. What Palmer
gear will help me record directly to the console without losing
tone or signal?
The PGA-04 or PDI-03 with the built-in load box is perfect
for recording your tube amp head direct to the console.
The PGA-05 can be used primarily with pre-amps to enhance the tone
straight to the console.
And although the PDI-09 is designed for guitar amps, you can also
connect it to a pedal board (or preamp) for a great sounding DI straight to
the console.
My
studio does a lot of business. Is the PGA-04 and/or PGA-05 easy
for a variety of guitar players to use?
Yes, your guitar players will love the Palmer gear--no matter what
style they play. Easy operation!
You simply connect the PGA-04, with its built-in 8 ohm load box,
instead of their speaker cabinet--record directly to your console.
Or you can connect the speaker cabinet out of the PGA-04 and record
direct + mic the cabinet.
The PGA-05, 2-Channel stereo cabinet simulator with no load box,
is just as simple. Connect the outputs of the pre-amp or FX rack
and record straight to the console with great cabinet tone.
Can I use the Palmer gear with my solid state amp?
You betcha. As long as you don't exceed the (120 watt Palmer) power limit.
I play bass guitar. Which Palmer gear would be right for me?
Although most bass amps
have a direct output, you should try a PDI-09 or a PGA-04 connected
between your speaker output and your cabinet. Then connect the XLR
output to the console. With this setup, you will get the full tone
of the preamp and the power amp section to the console.
Is the PDI-09, PGA-04 or PGA-05 an effects box?
No. An effects box has reverb, chorus, delay, etc. The PDI-09,
PGA-04 and PGA-05 are guitar direct boxes, and are all designed
to create an authentic speaker cabinet tone without having to
mic your cabinet. No more hanging a mic through your amp handle.
'Bout time!
What's the advantage of the PDI-09 over some other guitar direct box?
The PDI-09 is very clean and transparent. It has a 3 position attenuator
switch and a 3 position tone switch, making it useful for pedal
boards and tube amps for direct output to a console.
Do
I have to run a cabinet with my PDI-09?
Yes, the PDI-09 is a filtered DI box for guitar amps to connect
between the amp and the speakers. It does not have a load circuit
built into it. You can only use a PDI-09 without speakers if you
connect an external load box in place of the speakers.
What's the difference between the PGA-04 and PGA-05?
The PGA-04 is a mono speaker simulator with a built-in 8 ohm load
box. You can use it with or without speakers--set your tube amp
head to 8 ohms.
The PGA-05 is a stereo unit designed to use with line level preamp
equipment. It does not have a load box onboard. The PGA-05 has a
line/speaker input switch on the back of the unit to facilitate
the use of a preamp or an amp.
Can I run a speaker cabinet with my PGA-04? PGA-05?
Yes. With the PGA-04, just plug a cabinet into the 'thru' jack,
then into the cabinet. The internal load box is by-passed in this
mode.
With the PGA-05, you must set the line/speaker level switch on the
back of the unit to speaker level, then plug a cabinet into the
PGA-05.
What's the difference between the PGA-04 and PDI-09?
The PGA-04 is a mono speaker simulator with a built-in 8 ohm load
box. You can use it with or without speakers when your tube amp
head is set to 8 ohms.
The PDI-09 does not have a load box built in, so you need to use
a cabinet or an external load box.
When would a Triline come in handy?
It's really a versatile little piece of gear. The Triline can be
used to route your guitar signal to 2 different amp setups. Simultaneously
or Separately. It also has a built-in direct output for your acoustic
guitar's connection to the console. When used in conjunction with
the E-Frog cabinet switcher, you can route your signal between 2
different amp heads connected to 1 cabinet.
I keep reading about the original
PDI-03. Has it really been reissued?
Exciting News! Although the legendary PDI-03 has been out of production
for quite some time, Martin Schmitz, the designer of Palmer products has
heard your pleas and decided to put it back in production. As of September 2005 the
original PDI-03 is available again. Martin gave us a great
interview on the PDI-03. Read it here.
The PDI-03 and the PGA-04 have the same speaker simulator filter circuit.
There are two main differences: the EQ section and routing of the filtered and unfiltered signals.
The PDI-03 has two 3-position switches: one for the highs and one for the lows.
On the PDI-03, the filtered and unfiltered signals are separate with dedicated volume controls and output jacks.
This signal routing feature enables you to use the PDI-03 like a splitter and send a line-level output signal to
separate power amps, effects racks or consoles.
The PGA-04 has rotary knobs for the highs and lows. It also has a Brown/Lite switch for the filtered section
which is like a pre-set mid-range control. In the signal routing, the filtered and unfiltered signals are mixed
internally by individual volume controls and sent to the same output jacks. The unfiltered signal has a 6K switch
for tweaking the highs.
When I'm mounting my speaker simulator, do I need to leave a rack space for ventiliation?
The resistors in the load circuit are what gets hot, so this only applies to the PDI-03 and PGA-04.
The PDI-03 is rated at 100 watts and the PGA-04 is rated at 120 watts. Both units will take up to 200 watts in short peaks.
Starting at about 60 watts it is best to leave an empty rack space above the Palmer.
If you are running your amp at 100 watts or more, you should probably leave a space both above and below your Palmer to help
the heat dissipate.
What
Warranty is offered by Palmer Products?
As of October 2007: Palmer offers the original owner a 5 years unlimited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
ORDER QUESTIONS
What's
the difference between "Available" and "Special Order"?
We make every effort to keep in stock the gear our customers want.
"Available" means the product is in stock. Your order
will be processed promptly. You will be provided with the order
confirmation and tracking information when it is shipped. We will
notify you of any unexpected delay to your order.
"Special Order" items will need to be prepaid and could
take 4-6 weeks to ship. The gear is made special for you at the
Palmer factory in Germany, shipped to us, and we ship to you. The
cycle usually takes about 4-6 weeks. You will be notified when your
order is shipped and tracking information will be provided at that
time.
When an item is marked "ETA" (Estimated Time of
Arrival) it is temporarily out of stock due to high demand. An order
has already been placed with Palmer. The date quoted is when we expect
to receive the gear. As soon as we get it in, you will be notified
when your order is shipped and tracking information will be provided
to you.
You will be e-mailed a confirmation when your order is received,
and shipped. To see where your order is in the system, you
can go to UPS.com and enter your tracking number.
How do Special Orders work?
A "Special Order" item will need to be prepaid and
could take 4-6 weeks to ship. The gear is made special for you
at the Palmer factory in Germany, shipped to us, and we ship
to you. The cycle usually takes about 4-6 weeks. You will be
notified when your order is shipped and tracking information
will be provided at that time.
How can I cancel or change an order?

E-mail cancellations must contain the following: First name, last
name, phone number, order number, and e-mail address. This information
must be identical to the information originally submitted on your
order. Please provide contact information so that we may get in
touch with you if we have questions regarding the cancellation
of your order.
Every effort will be made to accommodate the cancellation of your
order, providing it has not been charged and/or shipped out. In
the event that a cancellation was submitted before your order was
shipped out, we will gladly refund the complete balance charged
including shipping. However, if the cancellation was documented
as received AFTER the order was shipped, we will refund the merchandise
total less shipping. Be sure to decline the delivery so it will
come back to us.
What is the best way to contact you if I have a problem with my order?
How is the sales tax calculated?
There is a 9.25% tax for residents of Tennessee. Sales tax
is applied to merchandise value and not on shipping. No sales tax
is applied to out-of-state orders.
PAYMENT QUESTIONS
How can I pay for my gear?
•You may use Check, International Money Order, MasterCard,
Visa or Amex. We do not ship COD.
•PAYING BY CREDIT CARD:
Credit card transactions are subject to verification by the issuing
bank. Please follow the instructions on the order form. For added
security, we do not store credit card numbers on our servers. Sure,
this means you have to enter the number each time you purchase
gear, but we think the extra security is worth it.
• PAYING BY CHECK OR MONEY ORDER: We accept checks or money
orders payable in US funds only. Please print out an order form
at checkout (be sure to remove the items from your basket after
you print out the form if you are mailing us a check).

cannot be processed unless we receive the complete payment. Incomplete
orders will be mailed a letter informing them of the discrepancy.
Please verify that you have added proper shipping and tax (if
applicable) before mailing your order. Orders from Tennessee must
include sales tax. Insufficient funds will delay your order. We
do not ship orders until your funds clear the bank. Payments by
personal checks will typically delay your order two to three weeks.
SHIPPING QUESTIONS
When will my order be shipped to me?
All available products will be shipped promptly via UPS ground. Sorry, we do
not ship on Weekends or Holidays. For other shipping options, you will need to
call or e-mail customer service to make special arrangements.
What is the "Default" shipping address?
We can only ship to the address on the credit card. In addition, for your security,
you will have to sign for your package. All gear will be shipped "Signature
Required" unless specified in writing that you do not require the item to
be signed for upon receipt.
Do
you ship to P.O. boxes?
We normally ship UPS, which does not deliver to a Post Office Box.
Please be aware that we only ship to the billing address of the
credit card used for the purchase. If you need shipments made to
an address other than the one on the credit card, you will need
to call or e-mail us to make special arrangements.
Do you ship international orders?
We ship only to United States and Canadian destinations.
All charges must appear in US dollars.
Orders for Alaska, Hawaii and U.S. Territories* require additional
shipping charges.

How can I find out the shipping status of my order?
You can go to www.ups.com and
use the tracking feature on the site. Enter the tracking number
you received with your order and you can track where it is in
the system and the estimated delivery date.
Can I ship my order to a different address?
No problem.
Can I change my shipping method or shipping address after placing my
order?
Sorry, No. Once you order is processed, we cannot change the information.
What happens if my package comes back
to you as "Undeliverable"?
Sometimes, Murphy's Law does kick in and packages are returned
to us as undeliverable. If you do not receive your order or a
confirmation of its return, please contact customer service at
1-866-380-JAMS(5867). On our end, we will try to contact you
via e-mail or phone.
Our goal is to get the problem straightened
out as quickly as possible and get your gear delivered to you.
RETURNS QUESTIONS
What is your return policy?
JAMS Audio wants to ensure every product you receive is
correct.
If for any reason you are not satisfied with your order and want
to return it for a refund, please note the following conditions:
• You may return gear within 14 days of the date of sale
•
If the item is a special order, you may return gear within 14 days
of our ship date
• Merchandise must be in new condition and must be
returned with the original packaging and manuals
• Simply call customer
service to obtain a RA (Return Authorization)
• You will be responsible
for any return shipping costs. We cannot accept COD deliveries
• JAMS Return Policy entitles you to a refund of the purchase price (including
applicable sales tax and shipping based on UPS Ground charges), less
a 10% Restocking Fee
• A refund check will be mailed to you after we check out the gear and ensure it is in original condition
• Refunds may take 2 to 3
weeks for processing.

How do I return a defective product?
We will gladly repair or replace all defective products. In the unlikely event
that you receive gear that is defective, we want to take care of it as quickly
as possible. Please call customer service at 1-866-380-JAMS(5267) or e-mail jamsaudio@palmergear.com within
14 days of purchase date to verify the problem. If you need to return the unit, we will issue an RA# (Return Authorization number).
Merchandise must be returned in the original shipping carton with
all packing materials and manuals. If the product is defective, we will repair
or replace the product and return it to you at no charge. JAMS Audio will
cover all shipping costs on defective product returns. If we determine the product
not to be defective and you want a refund, you will be subject to a 10% restocking
fee, and will be responsible for all shipping charges.

How are Shipping Damages Handled?
Please inspect your packages upon delivery. Report any damage claims to UPS at
1-800-PICK-UPS. You should save the merchandise in the original box and packing.
UPS claims may be initiated by either the shipper or the receiver. Notify us
immediately to report any damage. If you do not notify JAMS Audio of damaged
goods within the first 3 days of arrival, JAMS Audio's regular return

What about Misuse and Abuse?
We will evaluate all returns upon receipt. If we receive the product
and determine it to be damaged due to customer misuse or abuse (scratched,
dropped, beer spills, candle wax, etc), the item will not be returnable.
You will be responsible for all repair and shipping charges.
Title to items purchased is retained by JAMS Audio until said
items are paid for by the purchaser, and title passes to purchaser
at that time. Customer takes on full liability for safety and validity
of delivery address given to us at the time of purchase. JAMS Audio
will not incur any forwarding costs on shipments.
What information do you collect, and how do you use it?
Our order form collects physical information (including e-mail
addresses) and financial information (account or credit card numbers).
Physical contact information is used to ship orders and to contact
customers when necessary.
Financial information is used for billing. For added security,
we do not store credit card numbers on our servers. Sure, this
means you have to enter the number each time you purchase gear,
but we think the extra security is worth it.
JAMS Audio will
never share your information with other organizations for commercial
purposes without your permission.
